From the artist:
I have always been an artist in a variety of fields including painting, illustration and later computer multimedia. I have never forgotten my Vietnam experience or the friends lost.
It is an impossibility to forget such a tragic and memorable time in your life and the truly heroic deeds, I witnessed first hand. In most of the work, I try to show the faces of the infantrymen and the emotion of the moment they are enduring. My only regret is that I had such limited materials to work with at the time (i.e. paints, pencils, boards). But considering I was not on an artist's scenic holiday I can live with the limited results.
They are all compressed vignettes in time of souls I knew. All the talent in the world could not captture the reality they were passing through with the experience of life and death daily. War is such a dark place that no one should ever go there. It was hard to find a smile and ever capture it in a sketch.
